Author & Sociologist,
Rouhi Shafii is a sociologist, author, translator, women and human rights activist. She has published a number of books in both English and Persian. She has published reviews on 6 books in Persian, mainly memoirs from prison.
Since early 1990, Rouhi Shafii has presented papers on Iran, especially women’s situation in various venues including universities, amnesty international UK and side events at the Human Rights Commission in Geneva.
In 2010, she and a number of women activists set up International Coalition Against Violence in Iran (ICAVI). Since then, ICAVI has organised annual conferences and gatherings in alliance with similar organisations in the UK and Europe on the spread of violence in Iran, especially violence against women.
Rouhi is currently chair of Exile Writers Ink, an English literary charity dedicated to promote the work of exile and refugee writers and poets.
Rouhi Shafii’s memoirs, “Gates to the Great Civilisation” will be published in Persian by Baran Publishing house in Sweden. She also intends to publish a number of poems she has written in English.
